learning a second language, line graph, IELTS task1, band 6/6.5



The graph compares the percentage of New Zealand pupils studying a second language of French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, German and others by language acquisition between 2006 and 2014. Overall, all the language learned saw a fluctuateting trend with and French classes had the highest number of  students over the period. while However, Chinese classes had the least number of students but it only lasted until 2011 before the figure strived and competed with others.

Over the 8 years, French and Spanish classes saw a stable  fluctuating range of 28-32% and 20-28% students respectively. On the other hand, Chinese was the only language classes that saw an upward trend. The figure for Chinese started at about 4% in 2006, and remained the same until it skyrocketed in 2011 and tripled to 12% at the end of the chart.

On the opposite, Japanese and German classes saw a downward trend of which the former started at 30%, which was the second highest at that time and then steadily declined and hit at 18% in 2014. While However, the later, marked a doubled decrease from about 14% in 2006 to 7% in 2014.Other countries (others) saw a rise and reached its highest peak in 2013 (15%) before its sudden fall to only 7% in 2014.
